The Murder of Kim Medlin
The investigation into Medlin’s murder led to the arrest of Griffin, a 24-year-old police officer who had been with the Monroe Police Department for about a year. Evidence against Griffin included a shoe print on Medlin’s sweatshirt that matched a type of shoe often worn by police officers, as well as circumstantial evidence such as the cleanliness of Griffin’s patrol car and the fact that he reported an accident while patrolling the area around the time of Medlin’s death.
Griffin’s Conviction and Sentencing
Griffin maintained his innocence for several years, but eventually admitted to the crime in 2005. He was found guilty of both first-degree murder and first-degree kidnapping in February 1998 and was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
In addition to being a convicted murderer, Griffin has also been linked to other crimes and allegations of misconduct. He has been accused of stalking and harassing women, and was reportedly known for following women in his patrol car and using his position as a police officer to gain control over them. Some have speculated that Griffin may have been obsessed with Medlin and killed her after she rejected his advances.
The case of Griffin’s conviction and the circumstances surrounding Medlin’s murder received widespread media attention and remains a subject of fascination for true crime enthusiasts. Griffin is currently serving his life sentence at the Pamlico Correctional Facility in Bayborough, North Carolina.

The Medlin case serves as a reminder of the dangers of violent crime and the importance of seeking help and protection when confronted with potentially dangerous situations. It is also a cautionary tale about the potential for abuse of power and the need for thorough investigations and justice when crimes are committed.
