Sea World Helicopter Crash: Four Dead and Three Critically Injured in Gold Coast Collision

On Monday afternoon, a tragic helicopter crash on the Gold Coast left four people dead and three others critically injured. The collision occurred near Sea World, a popular theme park in the area, and involved two helicopters belonging to Sea World Helicopters. An investigation is currently underway by the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) to determine the cause of the crash.

Details of the Helicopter Crash

According to witnesses and authorities, one helicopter was taking off while the other was landing when they collided mid-air. One of the helicopters plummeted to the ground face down and the other managed to land safely, although it sustained damage to its windscreen. All of the fatalities and critically injured individuals were from the same helicopter, which crashed and landed upside down on a sandbank outside of Sea World. Thirteen patients were assessed at the scene by the Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS), with eight taken to Gold Coast University Hospital and one transported to Queensland Children’s Hospital in Brisbane.

The ATSB has appealed for witnesses to come forward and share any information or footage they may have of the incident. Sea World Drive at Main Beach has been closed, and motorists and pedestrians are advised to avoid the area.

Who Was Ashley Jenkinson?

Ashley Jenkinson was one of the victims of the helicopter crash and has been identified as the Chief Pilot at Sea World. Jenkinson was highly respected and experienced in his field, with friends and colleagues describing him as a “lovely bloke” and a “true gentleman.” The Gold Coast community has been shocked and saddened by the news of his tragic loss, and a service honoring the fallen is expected to be attended by thousands of mourners.
