Chris Brown and Rihanna were once one of the most popular couples in music. Rihanna made her long-awaited comeback on Sunday, February 12, 2023 at the Super Bowl LVII halftime show in Arizona. She performed some of her biggest hits from her decade-spanning career, such as “Umbrella”, “We Found Love” and “Work”. She also surprised fans with her second pregnancy reveal, showing off her baby bump during her final song “Love on the Brain”.

Shortly after Rihanna’s stunning performance, Chris Brown took to his Instagram Stories to share a screenshot of her on stage with a heart and a prayer emoji. Many fans interpreted this as a sign of support and congratulations for his ex-girlfriend.
However, not everyone was happy with Brown’s gesture. Some netizens criticized him for cheering on Rihanna after his history of domestic violence. They also accused him of being a misogynist and a homophobe who has stalked women and assaulted his peers.
Brown responded to the backlash by posting another Instagram Story where he compared himself to other white celebrities who have also faced domestic violence charges, such as Johnny Depp, Mel Gibson and Charlie Sheen. He wrote: “Where are the cancel culture with these white artists…”.
The controversy continues
Brown’s attempt to defend himself did not go well with many people online. They slammed him for playing the victim card and trying to divert attention from his own actions. They also pointed out that he was not only evil once, but multiple times throughout his career.
Some fans also expressed their concern for Rihanna’s safety and well-being after Brown’s comments. They hoped that she would stay away from him and focus on her music and family.
